GazetteNet.com

GazetteNet.com is a fresh face for America's second oldest newspaper, the Daily Hampshire Gazette. While working for Newspapers of New England I worked on a team with Gerry LeBlanc and Chip Kaye to launch version 7 of this award winning news site.

My Projects

V7 Theme

Special Sections

This project required a mix of design and development to fit the flexibility needed in creating special section layouts for GazetteNet.com. For this task I developed a Drupal module to add an additional layer of templates on the theme level. After launching the module I worked with Editorial at the Daily Hampshire Gazette to develop and design a number of Special Sections.

Home Page 'Cage' for Urgent News

The 'Cage' concept was developed for breaking news that needed to be pushed to the home page of GazetteNet. The 'Cage' module I developed allows for configurable templates with their own regions to target blocks to. This enables a "Regions within Blocks" concept in Drupal that allows for complex layouts on the fly within a theme's existing structure. GazetteNet's Election 2008 coverage was the first run of the 'Cage' concept. I developed the logic behind the output of the blocks within the cage to allow Editors to use the Drupal taxonomy system to target incoming news to specific areas of the cage.
